HOW TO HOOK YOUR READER
Presented by Jason Black
Thursday, NOVEMBER 7TH from 6:30 - 9:30pm
all want to write a "page turner" novel that will keep readers up way
past their bedtimes. But what's the difference
between writing that hooks the reader and writing that lets readers off the
hook?In this workshop, participants
will learn what that difference is, what hooks are all about, and the hands-on
techniques that enable you to engage the reader's deepest levels of interest,
sentence by sentence and scene by scene, and not let go.
Participants should bring one or two short
scenes from their writing to use for in-class exercises.
THE ART OF MEMOIR AND PERSONAL ESSAY
Presented by William Kenower
Saturday, NOVEMBER 9TH from 1:00 - 3:00pm
Your life is a story, and if told correctly, a very
interesting one. There is an art to taking the sprawling events of your life
and reducing them down to a personal essay or memoir. In this class we will look at
how to tell the fine difference between telling a story about your life, and
using your life to tell a story.
